Ronald James had a key RBI in the ASU comeback

Hornets' Rally Falls Short in 10-6 loss

April 16, 2008

Final Stats

Jacksonville, Ala. - Alabama State scored six runs late, but it wasn't enough to overcome an early deficit in a 10-6 loss to Jacksonville State.

Hot-hitting Darrion Pedro finished with three hits and Breon Landers added two baseknocks as the Hornets racked up 10 hits overall, only one fewer than the Gamecocks.

After allowing nine hits in over the first four innings, ASU rallied in the sixth. Furquan Shamsud-Din singled in Chris Davis. Ronald James later singled in Shamsud-Din and Zeb Hilburn scored on a wild pitch after singling earlier in the inning.

The Hornets kept it going in the seventh when Landers was doubled in by Pedro, who later scored when T. J. Griggs nailed a two-out double to left field.

In the ninth inning, Jovi Fiallo brought home Landers to pull ASU within 10-6, but the Hornets couldn't get any closer.

ASU travels to Huntsville this weekend for a key three-game series with Alabama A & M. First pitch on Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
