Despite Solomon's Homer, Hornets Fall to FAMU
April 22, 2008
Montgomery, Ala. - In a mid-week tune-up before the last conference series of the season, Alabama State dropped a 6-3 decision to Florida A & M Tuesday afternoon. In the second inning, Chris Fullman drilled a double to right field scoring Tim Jones. Chris Justin following with a groundout scoring Daryl Evans, making the score 2-0. FAMU score again in the sixth when Jones scored just before the Hornets tagged out Evans in a rundown, and ASU trailed 3-0. The Hornets got back into the game via a long home run from a very unlikely source. Zeb Hilburn singled to lead off the seventh inning. Ronald James followed with another single. John Solomon came in to pinch hit with one out. He promptly drilled a fastball to deep center field that floated over the wall. It was only the second homer of his three year ASU career, but this one tied the game. Jones struck again for FAMU as he hit a home run of his own in the top of the 8th. The Rattlers added two more runs in the ninth to secure the win. James and Chris Davis each had two hits for the Hornets. ASU travels to first place Jackson State for a three-game set this weekend.
