Froneberger, Pearson Earn All-SWAC Honors

May 16, 2007

ASU standouts Joshua Froneberger and Selmon Pearson have been named to the 2007 All-Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball team.

Froneberger, a junior from Atlanta, Georgia, was named 1st team All-SWAC as a pitcher. He was 5-4 on the season. For the second straight year he led the conference in strikeouts. He also had several memorable performances, including 11 strikeouts in a win against Jacksonville State and a 2-0 complete game shutout against Mississippi Valley State.

"It's funny because when Josh came to us he was a shortstop," said ASU head coach Larry Watkins. "But very quickly, I realized we needed to get him on the mound. And he has been simply dominant since then."

Selmon Pearson was named 2nd team All-SWAC

Slugger Selmon Pearson was named 2nd team All-SWAC.

Pearson, a senior from Mobile, batted .376 on the season. He belted six home runs and 11 doubles, while scoring 29 runs. He had several huge games this season, including a two home run, four RBI day against Alcorn State.

"Selmon is just a pure hitter," said Watkins. "His presence in our lineup made everyone else better."
